ESL: Weekend Cups
Hello AC community,

the next weekend is under the sign of AssaultCube (and Valentine´s Day, yeah I forgot it).

There will be two ESL cups from Friday to Sunday: 1on1 OSOK and 3on3 TDM.

For more informations: http://www.esl.eu/eu/assaultcube/news/113937/

If you have got any question don´t hesitate to ask :)

Best regards,
ärkefiende

RE: ESL: Weekend Cups
I'm thinking of signing up for the 1on1 OSOK cup, but one small problem, I don't know how to record/download demos...

I searched through the AC docs and also did a forum search and found nothing. Can anyone help me out here? I figure I'd rather ask and find out than not have a demo recorded and get penalized later on.

When you searched the docs, did you omit to read 'The basics', or did you omit to search for the word 'demo'?
In choosing a server to play on, make sure it actually records the demo. Look for the words 'recording demo' at the start of a round. And please remember that the demo you're downloading is from the previous round. You must wait for the next round to start before you can download the one you've just played.

@ärkefiende
I see several has signed up on the events already. However I don't think the ESL should allow reported cheaters to take a part of an official league like this.

Tu t'appelle FaeL ? kthx.

Astrohugo a avoué t'avoir filé son proxy pour que tu puisse passer au travers des blacklists.
Que t'ai triché ou pas maintenant ça n'as aucune espèce d'importance, puisque tu es déjà dans la blacklist.
__________

Your name is Fael ? kthx.

Astrohugo confessed that he distributed his unblacklisted/unknown proxy to : Tiboking, Wearpon and Ronald so they can evades their bans.

Yes you can edit your message, anyway a lot of peoples are aware that you guys are bunch of crap, Harrek was in the confidence that you are hiding in acp and LC clan with modified ip adresses (he didnt even need to denounce you btw, we aren't stupid).

Don´t abuse this thread as "hey this guy cheated"-thread, please. I didn´t accepted those league joins, but it doesn´t matter. Even FaeL is allowed to play as he isn´t barred in ESL. For punshing someone in ESL for cheating I need proofs with ESL match media.

This is not abuse, it's on topic and a relevant issue to the ESL leagues. All aspects of a game, such as forum, IRC, and leagues represents parts of the publicity to the game. Now, I would find it a shame if there wasn't done any work for preventing situations such as cheating.

I advice all players who are interested in the league to stay out of the ESL cups this time as long as reported cheaters seems to be allowed to play.

RE: ESL: Weekend Cups
@ aerkefiende: if ESL considers itself to be above and outside the scope of this game's community, then there's no point in having such a league to be considered 'official'.

@ Brahma, if the community is not recognised by the ESL, then there's absolutely no reason it should be the other way round. However, I'd like to say that ESL are under no obligation to prevent people participating in their games whatever the outside influences. And there is some difference between cheating in ESL and outside it for the ESL team, but in our case, it shall not be recognised.

There's always been too much of a barrier between the ESL and the game and it is, as I am quite sure, very much impossible to overcome.

It is quite disappointing that none of evidence that I've submitted gave a single penalty point to ANGRA given how many rules they've broken. I cannot recognise any officiality of the games that take place in ESL and the outcomes of these since they're all possibly infected.

In this case, since ESL doesn't recognise the community and its views, I believe it is very reasonable to request that AssaultCube be removed from ESL since it brings nothing more than cheaters, chaos and disrespect towards this game. There is no reason to recognise ESL games as "official" games any more since they do not consider our voices to be "official" in that matter and since we will never recognise cheater wins.

@ pwnage: yes, any decent player will realise that the participation in this ESL will not be seen as supportive towards the game itself. However, I am afraid that you might want to change one thing: ESL is not considered to be official at least by me, and it should not be considered by you, either.

@shivam101: they are at the same time

@drakas and co.: I know the situation is not the best. In other games in ESL there are anti cheat tools (PB, Auqueitas and so on). Therefore they have no problems. AC is different from those. I want to bring the AC devs and the ESL guys at the same table and want a discussion about the cheater situation.

You have a pretty bad misconception right here. The existence of anti-cheat tools makes no difference to the "communities" of those games since they are separated anyway. We are here pretty much one single community with some clans around - but we are very tightly nit in comparison to others. And as Shorty said, it makes no difference. It seems that my words do represent what quite a lot of people here would think, and that is that we cannot recognise ESL any more as representative or official because of the troubles that it has, and would potentially further cause. How come there were no such troubles in the original AC release cups; or at least there were none I am aware of.

Besides, I don't see what the devs really have to do with anything in this case anyway since they are not the ones watching demos and managing servers and finding out who the traitors are, although Brahma would happen to be in the developer team and seems that he has indeed talked to you about it.

Whatever the case, most of the games on ESL are not like AC or Sauerbraten since the models are completely different - commercial large-scale distributed communities vs. open-source small-scale relatively centralised community: as in, nobody but ESL really cares whether someone cheats in ESL games on something like Counter Strike, whereas we do care if that happens for AC since we're so small. Though in the end, even ESL doesn't seem to care of such issues... all the website really wants is us to dump our money into their pockets to stop those god-damn annoying advertisements whilst making use of our gaming time and your management time.

Anyway, do as you like but still, like pwnage, I advise people not to get in there.

Well, what I was emphasising is that they force it upon you since you can't have a normal browsing experience ;)

I'm not saying there shouldn't be subscriptions or paid modes or the like... Nothing is really free since people do have to start things up and maintain them... but it's just too much not to let people access their own content without disturbances, given the certainty that they're already getting massive sponsoring from Intel and other corporations that get some competitions going, and all of that is really based on the users' game-play, who still are forced to look at those annoying advertisements.

This discussion is starting to diverge.
The point here is: Cheaters must be prevented from playing in "official" tournaments.
If the ESL is official or not, or if they advertise more or less, these are not the issues here.
