Dedicated Elite Soldiers (or DES) is a highly known, old, and well-structured AssaultCube clan.

History
In the beginning
The road for the DES clan started off rough in the AssaultCube community, having a few early problems with a few trouble making members. At this point, Halo appointed a co-leader to help keep things under control. TwItCh gave the clan web space, in the trade off of the open co-leader position. Order and change quickly came.
Changes in structure
Since the resignation of co-leader TwItCh, the clan DES formed a council of six members (DES Elite) to promote the clan in the ac community and maintain order within the clan. Halo remains the overall leader while the six other members (as the group is now 7) of the group have equal voting rights on issues concerning the clan.
The DES Veterans
Cleaner, Tampamike, and tipper gave birth to a new, honor group within DES. The DES Veterans are those who have put a lot of time and effort into the clan, and are so honored by having their own group. These three are some of DES' oldest members. It could be seen as a retirement in the clan - however, all three can still see the Council forum, and possibly input their opinion. Since they are not official Council members, however, their three positions were filled by jamz, Mr.Floppy and Bukz.
In January 2009 Mr.Floppy was added to this group of veterans, after announcing his leave of AC. He is allowed in this group, not via age, but by what he has contributed to the clan and AC.

Recruitment
Currently, the DES clan has a very strict procedure on joining. To join the clan, a person needs 4 invites from existing members. This ensures they have been playing and are active with members of the clan, and that the clan has taking a liking to them. After ensuring the 4 invites have been given, the voting begins. The member's poll runs for roughly 2 weeks and in that time, at least 12 members have to vote. To make it into DES, a 5:1 ratio is needed (however, if anyone does have a problem with the recruit, the application will likely be terminated until the problem is fixed). After gaining both the invites, and the votes, the recruit is probationary DES - they are a full DES member, though liable to be suspended in case anything happens. This is a time for watching recruits very carefully.

Servers
DES hosts a number of AssaultCube servers, residing all over the world, which are almost all always up. All servers are monitored well with all DES members and DES server share with an admin password. All have up-to-date blacklists.

All match server passwords are "match".
The DES server share is a very select group of people who have access to DES' passwords, some in the tradeoff of passwords to their servers.
Server Monitoring
The main server administrators within the clan have set up their own domain, hosting their server logs and demos, similar to the dropbox client established a while ago. Most members within the clan have access to logs and demos of the servers.
IRC
The clan runs an IRC channel located at irc.gamesurge.net #DedicatedEliteSoldiers. Thanks to Freddo, an IRC client has been added to the clan site, which links straight to the IRC channel. Based in Java to run in your browser, the application is very easy to use. It can be found here.
DES also has a Quakenet server (#DedicatedEliteSoldiers, same as their Gamesurge channel). These channels are linked together and are no longer network dependent. No matter which network you are on, you can have conversations with anyone that is in the channel on either network. Note; This only works when Freddo's IRC Bot, BlackRaptor, is on IRC.
Mapping
DES is a big community of mappers, and many of its members contribute high quality maps to the community. DES' members have a count of three maps included in AssaultCube 1.0:
Since the release of 1.0, many patches have been released for AssaultCube, some with new maps included. The maps included in 1.0.1 from DES were;
An AC Map Pack (separate from the package) will soon be released with the next version of AssaultCube, and will likely contain these three maps, and possibly a few others made by DES members.

The clan runs a 24/7 mumble server, provided by jamz and maintained by Halo.

Events
Dedicated Elite Soldiers has taken part in multiple events and, additionally, has hosted a few themselves. DES members entered the first AssaultCube mapping contest; some members even judged the first and second competition. The clan has hosted two different art contests; one to design the clans forum banner and one for the screenshot for the map ac_arctic. The clan has also hosted the DES Open; a 2vs2 tournament based in a bracket system.

The name Dedicated Elite Soldiers is a reference to a clan on the same name for Kings of Chaos which Halo previously played in/with.
