A map (layout, level) is an in-game environment that you (the first person) play in.
Maps are usually uploaded to community websites like Quadropolis and others.

Official maps
Maps which are included in a release package of AssaultCube are so-called official maps. The latest release contains following official maps:
- ac_arctic
- ac_complex
- ac_depot
- ac_desert
- ac_desert2
- ac_desert3
- ac_elevation
- ac_keller
- ac_mines
- ac_power
- ac_scaffold
- ac_shine
- ac_snow
- ac_sunset
- ac_toxic
- ac_urban
Types of maps
There are several different types of maps in AssaultCube. Here are a few of them.
- Release Quality Maps
- Release Quality Maps are included in the current or upcoming release of AssaultCube. They take ages to get done, or even just up to an alpha or beta stage. They are either uploaded to a community site or they came with the game's original package.
- High/Medium Quality Maps
- These types of maps are decent enough to get played regularly, and take from a week to about 1 1/2 months to get done. The author usually doesn't put enough effort into it, yet the map has the potential to get up to release quality par. It may have the layout and miss the details or have the details and miss a good layout.
- Low Quality Maps
- Low Quality Maps are made by people who are new to mapping, they have a poor layout and basically look like they have being bombed by the "l" button. It might consist of a sniper fort or a bunch of walls with the default textures set on it.
- Training/Jump Maps
- Training maps are basically obstacle courses for you to get past using your assault rifle and grenades. They test the wits of you and sheer knowledge of how to use these weapons. Most training maps are Gema Maps, made by various people. Others are made by individuals who make their own sets of maps, e. g. Sharp with the Straining series of maps.
- Fun Maps
- These maps are just for fun, or as a joke. Maybe someone got bored and decided to make a house out of barrels. Who knows, these are made because its funny to make random stuff out of the ground.
