History

The beginning

Between a period of smoldering discontent with the leadership of the clan Maximum Destruction (MD) in November 2007 four members of that clan (Aphrodite (now: Princess), Apollo, DogDancing and RandumIdiot) decided in a chat conference to form up a new one. At November 22nd, 2007 the clan Tear you Down! was officially announced at the forum of MD. In the meantime it was clear that more of the half of the old MD members would switch over to Tear you Down!

As a result of the trouble in the former clan the new one started up with the precept not to be ruled again by only one person. Therefore two of the founding members - DogDancing and RandiumIdiot - would be chosen to be the formal leaders of the clan with equal rights. The other side of this precept reflects in the fact that many decisions (e.g. the invitation of possible new members) are done by votes of all active members.

Change in structure

Like its predecessor TearYouDown! has been growing very rapidly. This and some other aspects caused grounds for discontent in the clan. They stopped in February 2008 the invitation of new members and DogDancing started a discussion about the reorganization of the clan's infrastructure. The goal was to stabilize the clan and to prevent former mistakes.

After a long going discussion about the "how" and "why" they decided to install a council group of five members. After a voting, which had to be restarted cause one of the candidates left, the current leading board consists of following members: Apollo, DogDancing, Harps, KanslozeClown and Princess. The TyD! Council members are the points of contact to the clan (especially for other clans), they act as a quick response team and also as the forum admins. Nevertheless the most aspects of the clan will be ruled by its members (flat hierarchy).

Brazilian ban incident

The rise of waves of cheaters/hackers, impostors, master role abusers aso., which have flooded the community and its servers, forced Tear you Down! to a change its policy how to handle them. After a deeper investigation it was clear that the most of them had their origin in Brazil. Cause the ISPs in this country distributes dynamic IP addresses the permanent ban of a single IP was ineffective. Therefore the server providing members decided to block whole IP ranges and ISPs, still with the hope that the upcoming version of AssaultCube would make this step needless.

This action was misunderstood by some brazilian players and clans as an act of racism (1, 2, 3), which resulted in the beginning of a ban war against theit members on non-clan-servers. After a long going discussion on the official forum the most brazilian players have accepted the necessity of this step and the ban war was over. Afterwards the first brazilian public server was opened.

Leaving of founding members

In the heat of the discussion about the changing of the leading structure in April 2008, RandumIdiot was the first founding member who left the clan. In July 2008 another founding member, DogDancing, resigned his membership on his own wish. Short after that at the beginning of August 2008 Princess left the clan also. With that, Apollo is the last founder who still remains in the clan as active member.

Servers

The clan provides multiple public servers (0.93/CVS). Most of them are using the public blacklist, logging and auto-getmap-patches - some statistics and information on running games can be found on servers.tearyoudown.org. All clan members are authorized to take admin on them if there is a need to.

  2. Pennywise uses a blacklist, with the exception that brazilian IPs are NOT blacklisted

AC ladder

See main article: AC ladder

The clan also provides the ladder service, a ranking list of AssaultCube players originally created by acfan and recreated by KanslozeClown after a hardware failure on the hosting system. The ranking points on the ladder are calculated by the score data gained on several clan servers.

Mapping

Beside this the clan holds also many members in it who are interested in mapping: Popular maps of Apollo and Megalodon can be downloaded at Quadropolis. Also interesting is the update of the map ac_italy, done by Paulet's (known as ac_italy_deluxe). And quite many more.

Trivia

The name Tear you Down! is a variation of a song title of the New Zealand punk rock group Bleeders, originally brought in by RandumIdiot.
